Quotes: Misc. Part 5

Living is the process of preparing to be dead for a very long time.

- William Faulkner

Democracy is nothing more than the numerous and their manipulators bullying the less numerous. It is an elaborate and deceptive rationalization for the strong in numbers to impose their will on the electorally weak by means of centralized state coercion ...

Both forms of government feature voting by the people to select officials. The primary difference between them is that while republican voting is done for the purpose of choosing officials to administer the government in the pursuit of its narrowly defined functions, democratic voting is done, not only to select officials but also to determine the functions and goals and powers of the government.

The guiding principle of republics is they exercise narrow powers delegated to them by the people, who themselves, as individuals, possess such powers.

- James Ostrowski's

Contrary to popular myth, every Republican president since and including Herbert Hoover has increased the federal government's size, scope or power – and usually all three. Over the last 100 years, of the five presidents who presided over the largest domestic spending increases, four were Republicans. Include regulations and foreign policy, as well as budgets approved by a Republican Congress, and a picture begins to emerge of the Republican Party as a reliable engine of government growth.
- James Ostrowski's

Fifty-one percent of a nation can establish a totalitarian regime, suppress minorities and still remain democratic.
- Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn

Republicans need to understand we already have a contract with America – the Constitution.
- Joseph Farah

I am no Republican. I think it's a party of shameless political whores who have shown time and time again that they have no intention of living up to their professed ideals. But, man, seeing the Democrats get spanked like that still puts a little spring in my step.
- Vox Day

[L]ack of socialization is the bugaboo of the anti-homeschooler. Of course, socialization during my high-school years largely consisted of learning how to be cruel to others, valuing the judgment of one's peers in the place of one's elders and improving one's sexual technique. So, if you're really concerned that your homeschooled child lacks socialization, a rigorous schedule of Vivid films and Nietzsche should set them straight in no time.
- Vox Day

Watermelon - Green on the outside, red on the inside. Enviornmentalists disguising their Marxist agenda.
- Ilana Mercer (paraphrased)

Reds, and now Greens, agree that wise bureaucrats alone have the wherewithal to make decisions for billions of people.

[C]ommunist custodianship removes all the attributes of private property, chiefly, the incentive to conserve.

The totalitarian, myth-worshipping environmentalists are hostile not only to The Good Life, but the life itself.
- Ilana Mercer

I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.
- James Madison, 1794

With respect to the two words "general welfare," I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators.
- James Madison

Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated.
- Thomas Jefferson

One who breaks an unjust law that conscience tells him is unjust...is in reality expressing the highest respect for law...We will not obey your evil laws...
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

The greatest danger is not that our aim is too high and we miss it but that our aim is too low and we reach it.
- Michelangelo

The National Religious Partnership for the Environment campaign poses the question "What would Jesus Drive?" saying that clergy should denounce SUVs as sinful.

Roy Rivenberg has conducted a study of the Bible and discovered that Jesus would most likely drive a 1965 Plymouth, because the Bible says that "God drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden in a Fury."

It is possible, however, that Jesus may drive a Pontiac, or a Geo. Psalms 83 says, "pursue your enemies with your Tempest and terrify them with your Storm."

- Harry Lamb

Libertarians and conservatives think that America is great because of the dynamic of freedom, economic liberty, the rule of law and limited government. Liberals think that America is great because of government.

There are two methods, or means, and only two, whereby man's needs and desires can be satisfied. One is the production and exchange of wealth; this is the economic means. The other is the uncompensated appropriation of wealth produced by others; this is the political means.
– Albert Jay Nock

War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
- John Stuart Mill

Politics is the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich, by promising to protect each from each other.

- Joseph Farah, Taking America Back, p.162

Unrestrained freedom is anarchy. Restrained only by force and arms, is despotism; self-restrained is Republicanism. Wherever there is wanted the intelligence and virtue requisite for [self-restraint], Republicanism expires.

- Ilana Mercer

"In the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. ...
This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists' tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights. If one grasps this, one has no difficulty in understanding the statists' antagonism toward the gold standard."
- Alan Greenspan

[A] person living in the 20th century was 4 times more likely to be killed by his own government than in war or civil war, and 17.3 times more likely to be legally killed by an employee acting on behalf of his legitimate government than to be murdered by a criminal acting on his own.

The marvel of all history is the patience with which men and women submit to burdens unnecessarily laid upon them by their governments.

Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.

The language of small government and freedom was not an article of faith for them, but rather, a rhetorical device with which the power they craved could be wrested from the powers-that-were in the Democratic Party.
- Vox Day, speaking of Republicans at the national convention he attended in a Houston
