Projects - Animatronic Character

Animatronic for the Chicago Children's Museum

On June 26, 2002 The Chicago Children's Museum opened the Play it Safe exhibit. It has been over two years in the making. My part was to make the animatronics and some lighting effects for one of the main parts of the exhibit.

Now You're Cooking is a kitchen stovetop game show with an animatronic oven mitt host, Burt Burner. I also made several other parts:

  • Simulated gas burners (they really look great if I say so myself)

  • Flashing marquee lights at the base of the stage

  • Rotating curtain to hide show Burt

  • A pot of vegetables that pops up and talks to you if you win the game

Check out the Museum's web site.

Also see the Making Of page.
